2002 R.O.C. Public Opinion Survey on Environmental Policies

(The second survey) This survey was conducted by the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA), Government of the Republic of China. The objectives of this survey are to learn people#s agreement and the willingness of cooperation of the environment policies. The population of this survey is the R.O.C. residents who are 20 years old or older. The survey was conducted from September 17, 2002 to September 26, 2002, using Computer Assistant Telephone Interviews (CATI). There were 3,754 interviews completed. Under the 95% confidence level, the sampling errors of percent estimates were below 1.6%. 1. Twenty-eight percents of people would fill gas at the gas stations with air sealed gas pumping equipments. 2. Thirty-six percents of people knew the control regulations exist regarding gasoline. 3. Forty-nine percents of people were willing to pay for the motorcycle emission inspection fee in the future. 4. Twenty-eight percents of people knew that 2002 is the year of River Clean-up. 5. Four percents of people said that they had made phone calls to the recycling hotline. 6. Sixty-four percents of people recycled their used batteries. 7. Seventy-two percents of people were willing to recycle their used glass containers. 8. Seventy-two percents of people thought that the surrounding environment along the roads to scenery spots was improved. 9. About the household living environment: a. Eighty percents of people said that they would clean up water in containers regularly to prevent the breeding mosquitoes. b. Twenty-three percents of people said that they attended the Clean-up Week/Anti-mosquito Mobilization during the middle of August in 2002. c. Seventy-four percents of people thought that the environmental sanitation around their houses was improved over a year before.
